RM: The Sale

Local schmocal, this from yesterday's New York Times. Celebrity chef Rick Moonen's famed restaurant RM in New York hit the auction block this week -- and we mean not just the restaurant but everything in it. Nice article about restaurant auctions and some cool deals to be had on everything from cooktops ($5000 units for as little as $100) to espresso machines (as little as $250). Glassware, dishes, dented pots, saute pans, tables and chairs included.

The James Beard Foundation regroups after cleaning house with their board and firing their president who just pleaded guilty to embezzling $50,000. The old board didn't include any chefs and arguably was light on those with strong ties to the professional culinary community. New members include Dorothy Cann Hamilton (founder and CEO of the French Culinary Institute in Manhattan) and Larry Stone, wine expert and investor in Rubicon.

And last but not least, Frank Bruni gives Park Slope's Stone Park Cafe two stars.
