News Years Eve Dinners Galore

This year, with New Year's Eve on a Sunday, lots of restaurants are announcing their plans early. Here are a few of your local favorites who'll be celebrating the turn of the year -- make your reservations early. They're all starting to book up for early and late seatings:

Oakley's Bistro: Is accepting reservations between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. and will have a three-course menu for $50 per person or a four-course menu for $65. You'll choose from a tasting menu for your course. Price doesn't include wine. Oakley's books up quickly. Call 317-824-1231.

L'Explorateur: Two seatings at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. with the early ticket being a good party night starter and the later seating being a good party ticket. Not sure what kind of tasting menu they'll be doing, but the late menu includes a toast at midnight. No wine otherwise included. Call 317-726-6906.

R Bistro: 3 seatings at 5:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (I realize they're doing these in 2-hour blocks, but I think it's rude to tell diners up front that they must turn the tables for the next seating. As a diner, I know this, but I don't appreciate being pushed out the door.) Menu includes a champagne toast (with Tattinger) and three courses (you choose from one of two dishes for each course). Main course is rack of lamb or striped bass. $55 per person, wine not included. Call 317-423-0312.

The Oceanaire Seafood Room: Is doing a four-course dinner with tuna and salmon tartare; lobster bisque; foie gras larded tuna; and tarte tatin. 5 p.m.; $75 a person. (I stole this one from The Dish, so I'm not sure if there's just one seating and if this includes an evening of celebration.) Call 317-955-2277 for reservations and more info.
