Corner Gourmet Inventory Goes at Auction

While Scott Justvig remains MIA, Christy at The Dish is reporting there will be a "going out of business" sale at Corner Gourmet starting at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Expect more than just a closeout, this is a good old fashioned bankruptcy auction. A partial list of inventory but a lot of photos of what looks to be intact store merchandise are up at the Gallivan Auction website. They expect the sale to start Friday morning and go through end of day Sunday. No word on when the small merchandise will go as opposed to the larger kitchen equipment. I'm tempted to go and see when the Le Crueset and All Clad is likely to come up. I need a new Dutch oven.

Here's the info from Gallivan:

Back at the beginning of July, there was word of a soft opening at Buggs Temple the weekend of July 27-29. Anybody hear a peep?

Yesterday, I received by Dish email with news that "the latest word from the inside is a goal open date of August or first of September—just in time to enjoy Ritter’s custard on summer’s remaining hot days. Maybe."

Yay! Back to the ambiguous opening dates!

Scott Justvig has been working in Kansas City while his wife stayed here in Indy. He has left a lot of people high and dry, especially his employees.

FYI...I was at the Corner Gourmet last night and looks like they've just about sold everything. Nothing left except some food stuff and furniture. According to the people manning the sale most of the goods were sold by early afternoon on Friday.

The people working the close out sale said they went to Scott's house and took what they could out of the garage where they had been storing what little inventory they had. Scott has been dodging phone calls for months from employees and creditors.

It was a great little store with some nice people working with the customers. It is a shame that the owner treated the employees they way they did, taking advantage of them and not paying them for the time worked.

I hope the employees and suppliers that tried to work with Scott get something out of this. He really has hurt a lot of people.

Scott has always been shady. I have heard through the proverbial grapevine for years that he was closing.
The old chef Gordon Gomilla is great at what he does and I recommend him for private catering any day.

When Scott finally answers his phone, he tells the caller what they want to hear and not the truth. He has been commuting between Kansas City and Indy, dodging employees, suppliers and creditors along the way.

If anyone can "catch" him, perhaps they can get some of the money he owes to them from him.

Fellow Indy Food Lovers,

I just recently discovered this blog and must say I'm addicted!

As a former employee (I may even know some of you from the store!) and customer of Corner Gourmet is nice to read your comments. Many employees have gotten the run around and the proverbial "shaft" from the now defunct ownership.

I wanted to specifically respond to something that Gastroholic said, the former chef at Corner Gourmet, Gordon Gomila, is a wonderful chef. Gordon is still in Indy and is still catering events. Send me an email and I'll make sure it gets to Chef. In fact, I'll be a server at an event this evening!

Also, a new high end gourmet store is going to opening in the 86th and Ditch area. Great Cooks at Home should be open mid January (January 15 is the day that I'm hearing). One of their chef's will be Chef Gordon Gomila. They will start offering classes later in the year.

Again thank you for all of your kind thoughts!
