Brothers Bar and Grill in Broad Ripple

Cory is reporting from the real estate side that Brothers Bar and Grill will go into Broad Ripple in the former trophy shop space right on Broad Ripple Ave. They'll do some work to the building and space on the corner. Brothers is a small midwestern burger/bar chain and based on their website looks like they'll fit in well with the evening diners and late night Broad Ripple crowd competing most closely with restaurants like Union Jack's, Broad Ripple Steakhouse and Brugge and eateries/bars like Chumley's, Broad Ripple Tavern, and OPT. (They look a little like a Broad Ripple version of Champps and I'm sure they'll keep some locals in the neighborhood in the summer.) Cory is working on getting the renderings, but I hear they're planning on opensided window/walls and outdoor seating. It sure will be nice to have an alternative to La Jolla for sitting outside in good weather.

One thing that has me curious: I'm not familiar with the workings of Broad Ripple Village, but based on the past year's complaints about underage drinking, public intoxication, and even trash from a typical Friday and Saturday night, I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion about adding another party bar/restaurant to that block. No word on an opening date.

This is really sad. The commercialization of Indy ahs been under way for quite some time but Broad Ripple has for the most part avoided the invasion.

Now we're under full scale assault. Noodles, Sunflower, and now this.

Have you seen the website? It looks like chumleys on a Saturday night!

^I agree, but I do like Sunflower Market. I wish we could get some more upscale choices in Broad Ripple.

Kwitcherbitchin' -- you COULD live on the Eastside, which has nothing but chains, save for Papa Roux and Tie-Dye Grill.

At least Brother's is a small midwestern chain, not like, say, Chili's or TGI Fridays. It's not like independent folks are lining up. (Ask G. Thrapp about his efforts to bring in an independent coffee shop before he resorted to Starbucks at 54th and Illinois.)

But, if BRVA is actively trying to get more upscale restaurants and retail into the area, how can they justify it when the street itself such a downscale mess? Places like Brothers don't draw high income crowds -- they draw more of the 20-somethings who want beer parties and bar hopping. If they're actively trying to make it more like Naples' upscale 3rd/5th neighborhood (which I've heard from more than one source), they have a long way to go and I'm not sure how a place like Brothers' fits that mission -- other than they want to renovate and buildout that corner.

Brothers is a vast improvement for that block especiallly with the Noodles place and La Jolla across the street. But I really wonder why the locals who complain about drunk college students and cleanup on that street haven't been more vocal. Brothers isn't going to make the problem better -- it's just going to extend it down the block.

^^^Braingirl, the locals have been too busy screaming and whining about condo and townhouse projects that are "too dense."

Damn Yuppies.

Well it will be nice to deal with a poorly run, overcrowded college bar. People peeing in the streets. Frat boys taking over Broadripple...awesome.

someone told me recently that the plug has been pulled from this project. Any news?

I have lived in Broad Ripple for 12 years and I have never once seen anyone peeing in the streets or anywhere else in public.

It's my understanding that Brothers was looking at a potential downtown location. They've pulled the plug on that project. AFAIK, the Broad Ripple project is moving ahead.
