Quiz Answer: Sassafras

Sassafras is such a great word. You just can't say it without being, well, sassy: "Sass-a-frasssss". If the person standing next to you didn't get wet, you're not thinking about how Sylvester the Cat would really do it. Now, who here can tell me was sassafras actually is (besides being the key ingredient in file powder? 75% of you got it right.) Actually, sassafras as we is the leaf of the sassafras tree, dried and ground. It's used as a thickener and a spice especially in Louisiana dishes like gumbo. (Nope, neither cornstarch nor saffron are key ingredients -- if ingredients at all -- in file powder.)
