Tallent in the Tribune

Nice reivew of Bloomington's Restaurant Tallent in the Chicago Tribune this weekend! In their three restaurants worth the drive feature, Tallent gets a glowing review from critic Phil Vettel. Nice work, all! (Thanks to Christine for the pointer.) They also recommend Firefly Grill in Effingham, IL and Lincoln Cafe in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.

Let me put in a strong word for the first restaurant profiled in the Tribune story. We've visited the Firefly Grill in Effingham several times, and have NEVER been disappointed. It's only a few minutes off I-70, so if you're making that long drive to St. Louis and points west, it's well worth your time and money.

I've also been to the Firefly, as it's just a short drive from my parents' home in Central Illinois. Very cool place for such a small city--and they *used* to have foie gras on the menu, though I know they've streamlined things a bit. But the charcuterie plate when I went there was excellent, and the German chocolate cake we got for my father's birthday was unreal--and unlike any other I'd ever had.
