Indiana Pizza Guy Ranked 4th in the World

File under Who Knew? It's not part of the normal FMDM beat, but I can never just let a whacky press release go. Go, Mark!

Local Domino's Pizza Owner Ranked 4th in the World for Upcoming Pizza Tournament

(June 17, 2008) – Mark Romanini, owner of the Mooresvill Domino's store, will participate in the "World's Fastest Pizza Maker – Tournament of Champions" next Tuesday, June 24, at Domino's Pizza corporate headquarters in Ann Arbor, Mich., his 10th appearance in the tournament.

Twenty of the fastest pizza makers from the past two years of competition will prepare three oven-ready, hand-tossed pizzas — one pepperoni, one mushroom and one cheese — to Domino's standards as quickly as possible. Romanini is currently ranked fourth in the world with a time of 57.6 seconds. Normally, the entire order-taking and pizza production process, including baking, is designed for completion in approximately 12 to 15 minutes.

To qualify for the worldwide competition last year, he placed first in the "Big 10" region, comprised of approximately 1,000 Domino's stores from seven states. Romanini also took first in a local round of the competition held in Indianapolis.
