A Farmer's Market Bounty!

Made the rounds this morning including the still growing Binford and bustling Broad Ripple Farmer's Markets. Saw all sorts of people including Terry Knudson of Viking Lamb and Greg Hardesty who's been sighted selling vegetables all over town this summer. (And looking much happier and less stressed. The private dinner he made for last week's visiting Master Sommeliers was reported legendary.)

This always seems to be the best time of year with the last of the summer vegetables and beginnings of the fall. What did I get home with?

Shitakes
Tomatillos (time to roast them and make salsa verde)
Plums
Pears
Raspberries
Viking Lamb Bar-be-que
7-Layer Bar (from Circle City Sweets, natch)
Jaquie's Pesto (cilantro-lime, my favorite)
Basil (who doesn't love Nu-Jac!)
Cabbage
Capriole -- chocolate torte
Onions

Then, a garden raid which yielded:
Potatoes
Rosemary
Thyme
Flat leaf parsley
Red and yellow bell peppers
Green beans

Lots of cooking on the agenda this weekend destined for the freezer. Perfect for the rainy weather heading in to town. What's in your market basket?

I was just wondering out loud today how far into the fall Farmer's Markets are open. Might have to check out BR next weekend.
