Don't forget to eat your black-eyed peas today with cornbread. And no meat. Eat no meat on New Year's Day and you'll have prosperity and luck for the rest of the whole new year! (Although I never questioned how my mother reconciled the bacon that was cooked with the black-eyed peas.)
