Just What We Need -- More Chain Concept Eateries

The IBJ is reporting today (via their daily email) that Atlanta-based Raving Brands is including Indianapolis as part of their ambitious national expansion. They want to grow their company from 800 to 1000 restaurants and are planning 14 "fast-casual" restaurants in Indy by 2008.

"The company has nine concepts, including Moe's Southwest Grill, Doc Green's Gourmet Salads and Shane's Rib Shack. ... The other concepts include Boneheads, Monkey Joe's, PJ's Coffee, Planet Smoothie, Mama Fu's Asian House and the Flying Biscuit Cafe."

One hitch, though: All the restaurants will be franchises. While the company has one "corporate store" for each concept, they push franchises which means local or regional restauranteurs have to take the risk, but typically have a better shot with a planned plug-and-play concept. Typical restaurant size is 2500 square feet.
