Tiny Bits
Wow -- the week has flown by! I truly didn't intend to go postless. In the meantime, here are a couple of open questions:
Lunch at L'Explorateur: A poster asks if Neal Brown's Broad Ripple place is still open for lunch since the menu is apparently missing from the website. (I was supposed to have a lunch their myself but cancelled.) I'd tend to blame a web error more than lunch closings, but who knows? Lunches are typically loss leaders for most high end restaurants but there a great, less-expensive way to try someplace high end before you commit to dinner. But who knows? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Cabo Mexican: I meant to get down there myself this week but haven't yet. Early reports are that Cabo on East at Ohio (I think) is going to be OK. We sure can use an edible Mexican place downtown even if it's just casual.
Top Chef Indiana Connection: If you didn't watch the premier of this season's Top Chef on Bravo last week, you're missing out! The level of cooking is much higher this season than the past partly (as Tom Collichio says) because they actually recruited great young chefs to join them. Look for the exec sous chefs from Guy Savoy (in LV) and Jean Georges (NYC) as well as the the exec chef from Abacus (in Dallas) and even The Oceanaire (in San Diego). Brian Malarkey from the San Diego Oceanaire Seafood Room trained with Chef Ryan Nelson right here at our location so he's almost a home town boy. He was also *almost* was eliminated this week. We'll see if he can do better.

Cabo's food was just that...ok. I'm pretty sure I won't go back. But the people were nice, and I liked the fountain.
Yes, L'ex is open for lunch; was there today, in fact. Lunch menu is posted on the upper left of the web page, and in the menu section as well. Enjoy!
Yes, it looks like the lunch menu is back on the website. Hopefully the next time I decide to take a coworker there after raving about past dinners, I won't be embarrassed...
We tried Cabo last week and it was pretty bad. I don't think we'd go back, which is too bad as it's really close to our house!
Does anyone have any news on when either El Sol de Tala location is going to reopen? This renovation is taking longer the downtown Library.
I'm thinking it's a bit more than just remodeling with El Sol.
From the InnerNets:
"Among debts listed on Tala Inc.’s bankruptcy petition are $40,000 owed to locally based Mezzetta Construction Inc., the contractor on the Union Station buildout; $50,000 owed to the Indiana Department of Revenue for sales and withholding taxes; and $50,000 owed to the Internal Revenue Service.
Not listed is the city of Indianapolis, which owns Union Station. City spokesman Justin Ohlemiller said the restaurant owes nearly $39,000 in back rent."
Ouch. Sounds like that's not a turnaround that's going to happen.
Adobo Grill coming downtown?
