Wednesday Tidbits

Gatorade Inventor Dies: RIP Dr. Robert Cade. You did the University of Florida and the Gators proud when you invented Gatorade in 1965 -- and all because the football coach once asked you why players didn't have to pee after a game. Today, PepsiCo manufactures and markets the popular sports drink. In noting that Gatorade was available in 30 flavors in the US and 50 flavors internationally, I actually ran across a comprehensive list of flavors cross referenced and sorted by introduction date, type of product, and color. It also includes a list of international flavors. I. Love. the Internet.

Only One Emeril Show Cancelled, Sort Of: Our long national nightmare is over! Due to contract disputes, the Food Network will cease production on Emeril Live, only one of the shows in the Emeril empire. They will still produce Essence of Emeril, various Emeril specials, and they'll still be airing re-runs of Emeril Live, so don't hold our hope for an Emeril-free food world anytime soon. I still physically convulse every time I see or hear Paula Deen so other than occasional episodes of Iron Chef America, Food Network is still off my viewing list.

Morton's Open for Lunches: Morton's lets us know they'll be open for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays during December. They also offer a prix fixe lunch most other days if you're planning a special event. Call ahead. Not a bad idea actually for a holiday office lunch.

Ha! Paula Deen was just on today with Diane Rehm on WFYI. Interesting interview, that accent though and those southern expressions she throws around! I could imagine it would get to be like fingernails on a chalkboard after a while.

"Hiiii evrubuddy, I'm Pawwwllaa Deeeean."

Totally agree, she's so irritating. And they actually put her on Iron Chef this past week!

I heard her on NPR as I was walking out the door -- Ack! And I could *not* watch that episode of ICA. As soon as I saw she was on, I switched the channel.

Weird duplicate post. It must be because I was having a mild seizure just reading Chris' drawl. (That "evurbuddy" nails it. Ewww!)

My favorite is Martha Stewart (the benefit of working lunch/dinner shift).

She isn't edited, as she was in her previous TV show, and you see a real pro.

Also, she has lots of great chefs on and interesting film vigettes like the one about the first and only US truffle grower.

My favorite (and only show I try to watch) on the Food Network is Good Eats - at least Alton Brown knows some food science!
