Restaurants Open for Christmas in Indianapolis -- Pt 1

Some of my faithful readers celebrate Hanukkah this week and have already started tipping me off on restaurants open Christmas day. Others of you are already looking to eat out for Christmas dinner. (I'm signing up for Chinese food and a movie this year.) While Thanksgiving featured an abundance of restaurants open for lunch or dinner, Christmas Day presents limited options -- at least so far. Lots of readers are already asking who's open, so I'll try to do a weekly update. Here's what we have so far:

Shanghai Lil: This popular upscale Asian eatery on the Northside will be open from what I've heard. Call or check the website for reservations.

Capital Grille: Capital Grille, the steakhouse at the Conrad, had a stunning Thanksgiving menu and I suspect they'll do equally well for Christmas. Opentable.com shows them as available and accepting reservations on 12/25. No word on a special menu.

One South/Eagle's Nest at the Hyatt: Opentable also lists the Hyatt restaurants as open for Christmas Day. Hotel restaurants can be reliable in a pinch especially for out-of-towners. Try One South early in the day and the Eagle's Nest for dinner.

You can always rest assured that there will be at least one Chinese restaurant open on Christmas. The Jewish tradition on Christmas--Chinese food and a movie.

Forgive me, but may I ask about the next "holiday"? Where to watch the Insight Bowl game (I.U.)? I understand the game is on the NFL network and I was wondering if there are any sports bars in Inday that are non-smoking? Thanks!

I would have recommended Badaboomz but, alas, they just went back to allowing smoking last week. :(

I think Rock Bottom is smoke-free.

Considering I went to Oklahoma State and am a supporter of Cowboy football, I might not be the most popular girl in the room. Especially when we win.

For a non-smoking sports bar try any Buffalo Wild Wings - I'm pretty sure all of them around here don't allow smoking.

Chatham Tap is non-smoking. Its small inside, but they have decent TV placement. I've only watched soccer there, but I'd bet they'll have the game on!

I second the BBW. I'm still a bit steamed about the downtown one leaving and Badaboomz coming in. Such a disappointment. Anyway, make sure to find out if there is a smoking section in the Buffalo Wild Wings. I was at the Speedway one for the Cowboys-Packers game and thought it was non-smoking, but the bar area allows smoking, and a bit wafted over. Just something to keep in mind.

If your looking for a nice place to eat in Nashville on Christmas day, my mom and I went to the Abe Martin Lodge at the State park. They had a great buffet and a homey atmoshere.
