Whither Whole Foods?

Over at Property Lines, Cory reports problems with the Venu development currently slated for the south west corner of the Keystone/86th St. intersection. I'll double check with him tomorrow, but as far as I know, that development also includes the planned Whole Foods grocery -- moved from the planned Kite development across the street. It's not looking good.

Maybe they could put it somewhere downtown, or uptown... or midtown!

Why does EVERY health food store in Indianapolis have to be located on 82nd/86th?

I want to see more smaller markets like Goose downtown.

They have a truffle pork belly rillette now.

it's crazy good.

Put it downtown in the Gibson Building (Michigan and Capitol) instead. How long have they been trying to get a grocery in there?

Would they just stay where they are, the "old" Wild Oats at Nora Commons? That works well for me.

While Whole Foods and Wild Oats are now owned by the same company, the two are wildly different stores. My understanding from what I've read is that while they will roll some Whole Foods products into the Wild Oats stores, they're not changing the names and concepts over.

Whole Foods grocery stores are much bigger -- and frankly, higher end -- than Wild Oats and offer a much wider range of foods. Wild Oats stores focus heavily on natural and organic products and my understanding is that will continue to be the case.

The real estate representative for whole foods is a regular customer of ours and he happened to be in tonight. I asked him if the new whole foods project was in jeapordy. He told me with confidence that the project is very much moving forward. He also said that there is "no chance" that there will be a downtown location in the immediate future. Just thought I would share that info.

Goddamnit.

I know it's selfish, but the NW quad could really use their own grocery, even if it's just a small neighborhood one. When I lived in Ransom Place, at least we had the Safeway (or whatever it was that's now Staples) to grab some eggs or milk if you really needed it. Now we have no choice but O'Malias (though I have been making a recent habit of hitting Constantino's on Saturdays).

yep, sorry CorrND. On the bright side, this person also represents Target and said there is a very good chance of that happening relatively soon. If its in your neck of the woods you can at least get milk. What is constantino's?

Constantinos is the Italian Market at City Market. Definitely worth checking out.
