Robert Mondavi Dies
Wine pioneer Robert Mondavi has died in California. He was 94. Robert Mondavi helping bring the California wine industry into the international market expanding the Modavi family brand into French, Italian, Chilean, and Australian partnerships for growing and producing wines. He was alternately loved and hated depending on who you talk to, but there's no denying the wine industry would be a different place without him. He leaves an enduring legacy with the start up of Copia (the food and wine cultural institute in Napa) and major gifts to UC Davis. More coverate from Wine Spectator.

A giant by anyone's measure. A man who is largely responsible for the quality of the modern American wine market and for the legitimacy and acceptance of California wines around the world.
