Bugg's Temple: Here's What I Know

Hey, folks -- thanks for all the emails and calls. I've got some calls out to confirm a few details, but here's what I know so far:

Chuck Mack is out and the last night for Bugg's Temple, in its current form, will be tomorrow night. The Creation Cafe owners are in negotiations to take over the Tavern at the Temple retooling and re-opening in the next few weeks. Initial word is that Chef Brad Gates will be involved -- and in fact, one is hoping that he'll be involved to a great extent. It was always a mystery to me why current management didn't take advantage of his excellent restaurant management skills as well as his cheffing talent. I hear Brad's gone above and beyond the call of duty lately in keeping this place open, and, hey, he worked for NYC's Danny Meyer for 9 years -- he knows more than he's gotten credit for.

I'll post more when I have it. They'll certainly get a revisit from me.

Update: Creation Cafe owner Lynn Shepherd wants to ensure everyone that Creation Cafe is remaining open and not affected by the Tavern at the Temple closing.

I'd really like to hear the full story behind this entire fiasco. I've had some success with F&B startups in this market... This one didn't smell right for over three years. Location? Signage? Funding? Location? Since the Macks are not rookies, the stories behind this are sure to be the stuff of investigative journalism. Well, interesting reading, anyway.

This is probably a silly question, but given the fact that it's in a church, and is called "creation" cafe, is it dogmatically tied to anything? Sort of like Chick-fil-a or anything?

Wow -- it's political season. Everyone's sensibilities are so finely tuned. Bugg's hasn't been a church for years, and I think it's a stretch to read anything into the name "Creation Cafe". I don't know if you've been in, but their them is fairly apparent through the menu and decor.
