Devour Downtown Starts Today

Looking for a way to try some pricey downtown restaurants without breaking the bank? Devour Downtown starts today and runs through Jan 31. For the next two weeks, 35 downtown restaurants will feature $30 fixed price menus. Now here's the catch. These menus are great bargains if you want to try fine dining where a meal might set you back $75 a person or more. For more casual places -- $30 each is a feast or includes dinner for two. Plan accordingly.

Best bets? As usual, steakhouses and The Oceanaire are always the best deals. (Don't forget Ruth's Chris downtown with half-price on their entire wine list under $100.) RBistro always has a fantastic menu for Devour Downtown, and favorites like Elbow Room and Greek Islands are a feast!

Restaurants new (or newer) to Devour Downtown include Adobo, Euphoria, and Scotty's Brewhouse. Full list of participating restaurants (some with their menus listed) is online.

Good question! I was under the impression it was still going on but will check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey, Foodie, you're going to have to do better than that. We're all pretty savvy foodies around here, and I personally have previewed at least half the restaurants and their menus (they're pretty much the same for both Devour Downtown's per year) over the past couple of years. I've yet to see one that was what you call "a gouge." Sure, at many of these places, ordering three courses will cost you about the same as their prix fixe, buy at others, two can eat for the $30 price.

So, if you have issues with a particular restaurant's menu, call them out. Otherwise, I leave it to my readers to suss out these deals on their own.

Lord, that indyrestaurantweek website is disappointing - the menus are a *mess*! Also, I'm a little disappointed that RBistro offers one of each course. That's not really much of a choice. I am looking forward to trying Euphoria and maybe returning to the Capital Grille, which we enjoyed last year.

Ryan Craig of Ruth's Chris confirms the 1/2 price bottles (under $100) on Weds is still happening at the downtown Ruth's Chris.

I must say I love the Devour Downtown event. It gives normal people (like myself) a chance to visit a restaurant that they didn't know existed. Remember, this event seems to be geared more to bringing in new customers rather then catering to the current clientele. This year I'm going to go try Skyline Club for the first time. The best part about the event is it always occurs on my B-Day week! I am open for suggestions though. Where to I "have" to go?

Hey Neil - I've always been super duper pleased with Elements and R Bistro. Their food is always good, interesting and reflective of the season. This year I will be trying Euphoria and maybe Capitol Grille as I heard nothing but good things about it last year.

Capital Grille is an amazing deal on Devour Downtown. We went there once a couple cycles ago and then again last night. The only complaint I have is that both times we've gone during DD, they seem to rush the DD customers.

It's not rude or bad service in any way, they just bring things too quickly. Last night we sat down at 7:05. We perused the regular menu, asked for the DD menu, ordered, had bread, soup and then our entres served to us by 7:35. That's much too fast. We were done and walking out just a little after 8. Fine dining at light speed!

We ending up going to Skyline and 120 West. 120 West was a good fresh meal. The chicken dish was very flavorful.

Skyline was amazing! This is exactly what fine dinning should be. Our table even had a personalized setting. All of the dishes were very good but the SeaBass was amazing. It was by far everyone favorite dish out of any of the course options (and we tried them all). Beautiful view. We took pictures: A View from the Top

Anne, Elements and RBistrio have been on my short list for a while. I plan on going there sometime and sampling off of their normal menu. They DD offerings didn't seem appetizing to my pregnant wife :)

We had dinner at SI last night. It was a wonderful atmosphere as always, and the food was very tasteful and filling. We had the skirt steak and chicken breast entrees along with the first course salads and appetizers in which we split our whole meal so we could get a tate of each item. I highly recommend. The skirt steak is definitely something I will crave again. It was bursting with flavor. The service was a bit slow due to short staff and a large party, but the waitress threw a round of drinks on the house. SI is a definite Devour Downtown must!
